What Is Dowel Bar, Their Purpose, Uses and Advantages?

Image
What is dowel bar? A dowel bar is a way of strengthening the cracks in highway concrete pavement by putting the steel dowel bars in the slots cut across the cracks. It is a method by which several U.S. states' departments of transportation have successfully used to repair the address faulting in the older jointed plain concrete pavements. The typical method is to saw cut and to jackhammer the slots for the dowel bars. Following is the placement of dowel bars in the slots and then typically back-filling with a non-shrinking concrete mixture, and the pavement is diamond-ground to restore the smoothness of highway concrete pavement. What is the purpose of dowel bars? • The purpose of the dowel bars is to transfer the load from one slab to another slab which is       adjacent to the first one in such a way that the two slabs move together which reduces the       impact loading developed by the slabs by their independent movements. • They reduce joint faulting and the corner cracking.

Drywall screws are used to secure full or partial sheets of drywall to wood or metal studs. To use the correct drywall screws for your home improvement projects, you have to be familiar with them. Its easy, considering there are only three things you need to know about drywall screws - drywall screw length, screw gauge, and screw thread. Drywall Screw Lengths  The most commonly used screws in construction work are 1 to 8 inches long. Common drywall length is 1/2 inch thick.  1/4-inch drywall: Use 1-inch to 1 1/4-inch drywall screws 1/2-inch drywall: Use 1 1/4-inch or 1 5/8-inch drywall screws 5/8-inch drywall: Use 1 5/8-inch or 2-inch drywall screws Drywall Screw Gauge  Gauge in this case means the diameter of the drywall screws. Most commonly used drywall screws are number 6 and number 8. The higher the number, the larger the gauge of the drywall screws. When you buy drywall screws, the description will always mention the length first and then the gauge. For example - 1 1/4 inch x 6.
